What we learn and when

Click here to find out what we read and learn over a half term in every year group.

A brief overview of how we develop fundamental skills so our children can become confident and fluent readers who love to read.

An overview of how we teach the basics of language and communication.

Reading is extremely important and at DJS, we ensure children are given a range of opportunities to be exposed to books and reading through individual reading books, class reads, reading corners in classrooms and in reading lessons.

Children are taught the basic fundamentals of writing so they can communicate their thoughts and ideas across all subjects.

Grammar, punctuation and spelling

Grammar is a really important aspect of English which is required to ensure our sentences are clear and can be understood by others. We are aware that children are taught lots of different grammar terminology throughout their time at primary school so as a result, we have put together a glossary of the terminology your child will be taught.
