Kilham School and Driffield Junior School, having become winners and runners up of the Humberside U11 tournament, travelled together by coach to St. Peter’s in York to play in the North East Finals.

Driffield were placed in Pool A and began with a nervous start against St. Olaves and lost 2-0. They began getting it together against Yarm, holding a 0-0 draw. With their heads up, they then took a 1-0 win against Gateways before comfortably beating Hill House 2-0.
Meanwhile in Pool B, Kilham had an amazing start, winning their first 2 matches against Queen Ethelburgas 1-0 and Cullercoates 2-1. They were caught up short against Cundall Manor, losing 3-1 but regained their composure, beating Listerdale 2-1 in their final match.
Kilham had gained 9 points and were champions of Pool B, which secured automatic qualification to the North Finals on Tuesday 19th March in Leeds. Driffield Junior School gained 7 points, enough to enter the playoffs in which they narrowly lost 1-0 to Cundall Manor.
This is the furthest either of the schools have competed in hockey. The strength of Driffield Hockey Club is playing a very positive role to primary school hockey in the area. If anybody is interested in joining the club, contact Fiona Tuplin.
Finally, congratulations to all of the boys who took part. Their behaviour and sportsmanship was excellent throughout. It was good to see two local teams supporting each other and representing the area with pride. Good luck to Kilham in the next round.
