I am pleased to introduce myself and give a brief description of what I do.
I have worked at Driffield Junior School for over 10 years, supporting children as a teaching assistant. During that time I have been able to develop my interest and knowledge of pastoral support. I am not based in a classroom, so this gives me the opportunity to work with children at a time best suited to them. This could be first thing in a morning as they arrive at school, or during breaks/lunchtime. It could also be during lesson time if the need arises, or sometimes even at hometime.
Part of my role is to provide a “listening ear” for the children when they have concerns which they want to share. We know that children who have worries sometimes find it very difficult to settle into the daily school routine and their capacity for learning is affected. If further assistance is required, I can then contact parents and other agencies to work together to support the child and their family.
Another part of my job centres on the various issues concerning Child Protection. I work with families, social workers and various support agencies to get the best outcomes for our children.
If you would like to talk to me or need more information, I am in school every day from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm except for Wednesday when I finish at 12.30.. I will also be in school for the parents evenings if you would like to meet informally to discuss anything. I look forward to seeing some of you there.
